Problem Statement
The Ag Heritage Park (AHP) is located within the watershed of Parkerson Mill Creek, which is impaired for both pathogen contamination and sedimentation. Storm water runoff from most of its 93-acre, semi-urban watershed accumulates in the 2.5-acre AHP Pond. Discharge from the pond is routed by an existing stream through about 3 acres of potential wetland area. A storm water wetland could retain and treat large volumes of stormwater runoff for specific contaminants including pathogens, sediment, nitrogen, and phosphorous. The proposed design must meet the following criteria: maintain or improve the existing hydrology of the site, design a storm water wetland that is resilient to both high volumetric flow rates and extended periods of low flow conditions, and design hydraulic structures that mimic natural flow phenomenon.
